Kerr Elementary School

Originally built in the early 1930s, Kerr Elementary School was no longer able to effectively serve students and the district.  It was decided that a new school would be constructed on the field adjacent to the existing school, and the old school would be demolished once complete.  The new Kerr Elementary was designed with 21st century learning in mind, and emphasis on collaboration with the Maker Space as the main focus.  The design of the building required a lot of trial and error as heavy grading was needed to place the new school on the new site.  The overall configuration of the building was strategically designed to make the collaborative spaces easily accessible and keep grade clusters together.  The number of stories was also experimented with during multiple test fits during the programming and space planning process.
